When we travel with our computer, we take an IBM Thinkpad which fits nicely into our carry-on. Most of the time we leave our computer at home and check our mail at libraries or at internet cafes throughout the world when we think about it or the opportunity presents itself. When we can't log on, we don't worry about it and just move on.

If we're away for a long time, (6 weeks or more) we call home. Depends on your comfort level.

We like to to be out of touch. That's why we travel. If you have to stay in touch for business purposes that's a different situation.
