You could drive to Pompei so the next day you can visit Pompei and drive the along Amalfi coast, but I wouldn't.

If your flight arrives at 5:30, you may not get on the road until 7:30. I'd suggest taking the Airport Autostrada for approx. 20 km, and staying at one of the two Sheratons or the Holiday Inn Parco dei Medici just a few miles from the GRA-grande raccordo anulare (ring road), which you will take the next day in the direction of Pompei or Amalfi Coast.

I would not drive this Autostrada at night because there are too many big trucks and crazy, speeding drivers.
