Subject: Re: The Crypto-Jews in Belmonte, Portugal
Hello Robert and Ziners -

In 2000, I traveled to Portugal and, specifically, went to Belmonte knowing that is the last remaining active Jewish community. We saw the synagogue with it's bright red doors. And as it was in the fall, the Sukkah. In that community we saw some individual Sukkahs also. But saw no one.

We visited some other "synagogues" in Portugal that had only a sign above a door.

We are going back to Portugal in May and visiting Lisbon, Tomar, Mealhada (for the roasted suckling pig) and then to Oporto.
