We usually travel in spring (late March to mid April) or fall (Oct). The crowds are less, temperatures are comfortable for lots of walking, and the days aren't too short. The ancient sites in places like Greece, Turkey, and Italy are magical with all the spring wildflowers blooming. October has always brought us great weather in the Alps (Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, France).
