As a former temporary resident of Israel in the 1970s, and one who hasn't been in the country for 30 years, I'm looking forward to returning for a 2 1/2 week visit this July. Am seeking an independent experience with two 17 year old girls, my daughter and her Russian/American friend. Would appreciate any directions to a guest house/B&B/apartment that would sleep 3/budget accomodations in the Tel Aviv area, which could be used as a base from which to explore. We don't need a full service hotel and having a kitchenette would be useful.

Thanks for any Israelis or experienced travelers who can provide suggestions about places to stay and the logistics and safety of self travel and car rentals.
