I always do a Yahoo search for vacation rentals in Kona Hawaii when looking for friends. There will be many local internet sites for homes and condos for rent by owners.

You should hear back immediately when emailing the people. Only stay on the ocean....not many built away from ocean and it will be too hot if you are not right on the beach....plus it is much nicer with view of beautiful sunset on the ocean.

You need a rental car for sure. I suggest staying close to Kailua village so you can walk into town. Most airlines offer car rental with their tickets.
