Amalfi is a lovely town with lots of nice spots for enjoying a coffee or lunch. It's geared for tourists, so I would imagine you could get a driver/tour for a drive along the coast. Definitely try to go up to Ravello. We did the trip with a bus tour from Sorrento. The guide mentioned the narrated boat ride as an option for some of the free time in Amalfi. She made arrangements with one of the small boats for those interested when we arrived. We just paid the captain at the end of the trip--don't remember exact amount, but not much and well worth it. I'm sure you can do it on the spot as there were a number of these boats on the docks.
